Valentino Gettsby

What do Talitha Getty and F. Scott Fitzgerald have in common you ask? Well two things really... Yves Saint Laurent has been quoted as saying that Talitha was "beautiful and damned," just like the title of the 1922 Fitzgerald novel. Very true as she died at a young age in 1971 after becoming a darling of fashion and the symbol of hippie de luxe chic. Another connection would be the simultaneous themes that the recent Valentino Spring 2011 Couture line evokes. With the easy silhouettes of 70s glamour mixed with the fluttery whimsy of the Gatsby era, this collection really blends the two aesthetics quite well and the results are stunning...

Get your Stripes!!

It seems like so many divas of the 60s and 70s knew how to work a stripe like no other! I always love a simple understated blue and white or black and white striped nautical top, but those who can pull off the loud and crazy colors definitely have a skill! I am adhering more and more to the more is more philosophy, and this Concept 70s Swirl striped dress for I. Magnin definitely has more stripes!! On top of that it has a beautiful diamond pattern on the back for that added surprise... love it! If it wasn't too small up top I would keep it for sure.. but one of you can rock it at your next hostess party... xoxo!

Tori Richard at ViviBell Vintage...

I've recently added a super-cute mod Tori Richard jacket to the shop and it is in very good condition. Tori Richard was a premiere resort wear designer who came to the height of popularity throughout the 1960s and 1970s when the Hawaiian/Polynesian aesthetic craze was happening in American sportswear. This jacket was made exclusively for Liberty House, a specialty chain originating in Hawaii, that then expanded its locations to California, Washington and Nevada. These chains dried up by the mid 1980s.. however you can still purchase some pieces at ViviBell Vintage!!

Vintage and Vogue

I've come across come really great fashion spreads in UK Vogue lately, all with a 1960s Mod theme and all feature vintage accessories. Vogue has been infusing haute couture with "low-brow" costume jewelry and accessories for years and it always looks great. First up is this month's issue of UK Vogue with Georgia May Jagger.. the spread is at Frank Sinatra's house in Palm Springs and notice the vintage gold bracelet... I think I may have found it's lookalike..

Speaking of lookalikes.. I also love this Lara Stone spread in the November 2010 issue of UK Vogue.. and I love the little white bag she's holding. It was listed as only costing $16 or pounds I should say...

I've actually been eyeing this bag for a while and am gearing up to possibly buy it so hopefully none of you will swipe it before me.. though I'm sure the seller would love for anyone to buy it.... Last thought - these images are really making long for spring and sundresses and hopefully another trip out to Palm Springs... sigh...
